Kites over Yucca Valley |

It's been awhile since our last update. Horses came into our lives and are keeping us busy. Hundreds of horse photos later we don't yet have a good one for scenic wallpaper. It's March as I write, the windy month in which we celebrate the Irish in all of us with St. Patrick's Day. Our first picture is of the Emerald Isle itself, taken from the top of a high, windy cliff. Our home town, Yucca Valley, held its second annual family kite flying day, renamed "Kite's over Yucca Valley" this month. Pictures two and four are of some of the giant (40' and more) kites that flew over Yucca Valley High School. Yucca Valley is located about 30 miles north of, and 2000 feet higher than, Palm Springs, California. Driving here from the urban areas of Southern California you get to see Palm Springs' wind farms, which "grow" along the 10 Freeway. This is a very windy valley, and windmills like those in pictures three and five harvest the wind to supply electricity. Sorry, the last photo is only available in 800 x 600. I was driving home at sunset from a rare trip to the city. It wasn't until the car got to the windmills, off the freeway and parked; and the shutter had clicked on the very last of the sunset, that I realized I hadn't set the image size on the camera larger for a scenic shot. Even this photo is stretched from its original size. Well, back to raking manure out of the horses' stalls and trying to figure out how to get a scenic shot of them.
